Seasonal Depression or Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

Seasonal depression,which is also known as seasonal affective disorder (SAD), is basically  a depression that occurs every year at the same time. It usually starts in fall, gets worst in winter, and ends in spring. It’s much more than just "the cabin fever” or winter blues"

Its extremely common among people these days but many people can’t even realize that it’s actually a disorder. Women are more likely to suffer from this disorder as compared to men and this depression usually starts in the early adulthood. This can also occur in children and adolescents whereas older adults are less likely to experience /suffer from SAD. More over people living in cloudy regions/areas or at high latitudes are at higher stake to experience this illness.



Cause of this illness is

According to a theory it occurs in people who have “Less Exposure to Sunlight.”



Symptoms of SAD


  • Anxiety
  • Sadness
  • Unable to concentrate
  • Irritability
  • Loss of interest in the usual activities
  • Withdrawal from the social activities

Coping up with SAD


  • Workout daily
  • Make an effort to stay active.
  • Spend most of your time with those who make you happy.
  •  Eat well and most importantly watch out for carbs.
  • Hunt down that Sunlight.
  • Plan your things and try to avoid stress
  • Don't be shy to seek help if you need it.
